Taupō Junior Football 2022– how it works!

Accurate as at 14th April 2022

Based in Crown Park, Taupō Junior Football runs both summer and winter football activities for Children aged 5-16. The club runs on a volunteer basis, with a committee overseeing administration & volunteer community coaches and referees. We encourage parents to get involved as much as they can. Club fees cover gear (balls & a uniform shirt) and go towards the general upkeep of the grounds.

Winter Football – Saturday Competition

With a season roughly following school Terms 2 & 3, the winter football season Saturday competition is designed to be fun for players at all levels, from age 5 to approx 16. The season runs through the winter months, roughly following terms 2 + 3.

Committee, Coaching, Refereeing and Prize giving

Junior Football Committee

The Junior Football Committee is a small group of volunteers who work hard to facilitate the season from an administrative point of view. Some of the work that the committee is responsible for includes: receiving entries to the season, receives fees, set up the draw, recruit and support coaches, keep parents informed, liaise with schools, enters teams into tournaments, post to social media, keep records of games …

The committee is made up of:

  • Hamish Crawford
  • Steve Giles
  • Danielle Dunbar
  • Cherie Day
  • Jessica Nicholas
  • Lara Davies

We’d love to have more committee members – Ideally we would like to bring people in who have children in the younger grades to ensure succession planning.  If you’re interested in joining the committee as a member, please let us know at juniors@taupofootball.org.nz

Coaching

Coaches wanted! Coaching is extremely rewarding, and sadly we typically struggle to recruit sufficient coaches. The club can provide assistance through providing coach education, providing a ‘coaches coach’ to assist you with delivery of a practice session, and through combining team practices between teams with experienced and inexperienced coaches. You don’t have to have played the game before to become a great coach! Please get involved through emailing any queries through or advising of your interest in coaching through juniors@taupofootball.org.nz

Refereeing

Each team is required to provide a referee for half of each game. This may be the coach or a team parent.

Prizegiving

Due to COVID-19, there was no communal prize-giving in 2021. We hope to return to a group prizegiving in some format in 2022.

Registration and Fees

Registration typically opens in February/March
